That sucks Kyle when I had mine I converted it to Echain that I got cheap on ebay. I did have to fabricate a couple trays to support the chain. If you do a search under my name with echain as the subject I did a post with pictures. Here is that link http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12770&highlight=echain

You can do a quickie repair that works with a short sister out of 1/4" ply or any kind of plexi if you have some laying around. Just screw it from the cable side.
Thise thing were always kind of hokey and most folks end up going the e-chain route. I bought mine straight from IGUS-not the cheapest way to go but theyhad the size I wanted available. If they have it on ebay as Mike suggests go for it. On the prs the chain just lays right on top of the beam and you don't need brackets-those re for the PRT where the chain lies next to the gantry.

1/4" ABS, PVC etc will get you by until you can get a new one...or band-aid it like Dave points out. These things certainly don't last forever, but the clear ones last the longest. Good luck with it & take extra care that the wires don't get strained when you are working on it...

OH SNAP! Just like a piece of spaghetti, in two places. I've got one of the old black ABS ones still in the wrapper if you want it to 'make do' until you get the chain.
I bet you were scrambling to stop it before it ripped the arm off the wall!

I do remember, when we put it together, seeing and saying that it looked like it had been stressed and fractured some due to the previous owner having it attached in the wrong place. Thought it would've snapped sooner than it did. ;)

Thanks all,
Brady, thanks for the heads up on the 1/4 abs they have some sheets at Menards.
Dave, Guess I will rig something up just long enough to cut a new one.
Scott, if you were close I would drive up and buy your old one.

I would find out from SB how much the KabelSchlepp upgrade is for that...Only really early PRS tools had them. I don't think it is that much money for the chain + mounting plates & hardware.
You can lay your broken one over the ABS (or just draw it up) and drill the holes. The trickest ones will be the large ones as a paddle bit might catch and snap...

This has two layers of split hose 180 degrees apart with wires inside.
Still working well. Cost about $12.

Not a great idea. Your wires and cables should be isolated from the static electricity in the DC

Got the DC are back up and went with Bardy and got the e chain for the Y and just letting it sit till it gets here. I was only 205.00 shipped.
Desktop will be working over time this week:)

While I like the echain and that is what I used for my bot. I was thinking could you use a pool noodle for this? Run the wires in the center and hose clamp the ends? Interesting experiment idea.

I gave up on the springy arch about 8 years ago. I just have 2 wood uprights and let the cables droop between them. I have not had any problems since I made the change

After going through 2 of these arch cable carriers and repairing them both at least twice, I tried some Formica with plywood blocks screwed to the Formica. Mounted it to the Y axis like the igus chain. Worked great for several years. I think the idea of Formica was given by someone on this forum. Maybe Paco. Any way it was cheap and effective. Not pretty.
