View Full Version : Tight tolerance jig

I had to bore some holes in very small parts I am making for a project. They needed to be within about .005" of their intended position and it is entirely out of my human ability to line something up exactly. I came up with this jig to solve the problem. Basically, I make the jig on the machine in place and it's a snap to position the part in the jig. No human registration required!
I added a compressible slot in the jig so i could use a pressure clamp to secure the part.

Once the part is in the jig, the program runs and bores the hole.

Here's the part after the process.

It's for an invention of mine. The "Aim-right Lav Light" (So you can pee in the dark). The thing affixes to the bottom of the toilet seat so when its raised, illuminates the bowl.
While it may seem ridiculous, the thing actually works and is quite useful. I think men over 40 with wives who insist the seat be lowered each time can appreciate such a device. The battery and LED if used properly should last about ten years. If the seat is left up continuously, the battery will last about 45 days.

Id buy that. My son needs one when he needs to go during the night. He's too small to sit down, and has a tendency to "miss" a bit. :)

I guess us Canadians will have to pee in the dark. You know the USPS delivers here too :)
All kidding aside John, I'd test one out if you want. I'll pay the postage no issue.

I wouldn't mind trying this. I HATE turning the light on at night in the bathroom. I had gotten pretty good at navigating my way in the dark by touching landmarks to know where i was however since i've been on this medicine i am very dizzy and disoriented.
I hate when you get situated, aim and think you are dead center only to NOT hear that familiar sound immediately and have to stop, reaim and start over.
The only real problem i have is, is how cold the water gets in the winter...

I can try one. I was working on same thing but you bit me to it.
John, I got my new Aim-Light in the mail today.....Thanks!! I installed it and showed my 4 year old. He said "COOL, I need to show this to Mom". So now I need another for the other bathroom, please let me know where and when I can order another one. Thanks again, Geoff

John…
Sorry about the slow response here. Your aim-light arrived the day after my rotator cuff surgery and I’m not bouncing back very quick! I want to say that I’m proud of the quality part you’ve made and pleased with the design. I’m pleased that you decided to make it a sealed, disposable unit, rather than trying to make the battery replaceable. Smart!
Are your plans to have the body injection molded? Assembled overseas? Or just sell the entire concept.
Thanks again

The basic concept is to justify my massive tax deductions for tools and equipment! As for injection molding, the plan is to purchase my own injection molding equipment and manufacture the unit locally using local labor. I'm going to start with online sales and then into retail. Retail is a long row to hoe so no rush on that.
As for additional testers, I've sent out the entire first production run and that should be enough for now. Thanks to all that asked!

Steve I had that same surgery and you will have a "dead arm" in a sling for about 6 weeks then you'll have physical therapy to get you back to close to normal. Mine was on my dominant arm so it was extra hard especially when trying to aim for the toilet so this device might be exactly what you need!

Jack…
Thanks for the “encouragement”! It looks to be an extended recovery all right!
This has been a comedy of errors… I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand and was so pleased with the results I had the left hand done four weeks later… The day I came home from the 2nd surgery, I caught my pants leg in a dresser drawer. On the way down, I was debating which hand I’d catch myself with and landed on my shoulder. I tore off the biceps tendon and did extensive damage to the rotator cuff. I’ve been wondering when I’d find time to finish the CNC routing book for beginners I started a few years ago… I’ve been typing and mousing left handed so much lately that my thumb tendon has frozen in its tunnel. I go to the hand surgeon tomorrow to see if he can do anything non-surgical for the time being!
My father-in-law used to say “growing old is sure inconvenient”. I understand!

Sort of already been invented in Australia John. Called a "Lav-Nav". When glowing red dont pee - when green go for your life. I got to review it about 3 years ago for an RV mag I worked for. Also a cardboard box for ladies to pee in "on the road". I could not find a solitary lass to try it?,?,?, Another funny one was a zapper that neutralised mozzie bite stings by applying a shock. Nearly killed a guy with a pace maker testing this!

John…
I gave my “Aim-Light” to my daughter… She has four young boys (his hers ours) and has asked for a modification. She would like to see it deliver an electric fence type jolt to any boy aiming directly at it!
Having peed on an electric fence as a youth, I can say it only happens once!
