Off Topic so please remove if not suitable Dianne.

Does anyone recognize this old tool? The dial rotates slowly as the barrel is rotated. Not sure of the ratio but it's quite high in favour of the barrel. I'm guessing that the pointed end may have been inserted into something turning.

Yup...It's a tach. It's missing the wheel on the tip. (there are several types)

You'd grip it with the thumb hold and press the rubber wheel against the spinning shaft to gauge RPM.

This dude (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLWlkobzKgk) shows how it works, and a practical application for it not easily done with a modern digital tach.

Here's the one in my tool box, with the instructions. Different brand, but they should be the same operationally. If you want the instructions let me know and I'll scan it for you.

Thanks much guys. What a great video Brady, I'll need to flag Tubal Cain's site.
Jim, I really appreciate the offer. I'm clearing out an uncle's things so will continue to watch for the manual and if not I'll get in touch.
