If I read that right the laser is only 2.5watts, very weak

Seems 40watt is even considered weak on the true engravers

Which is the one I just ordered, but it's upgradable to 90watts

Curious about the 90 watt laser. Could you include a link to such a device? What about a controller and how does one go about turning it on and off at the appropriate times?

Apples and Oranges here. Yours is probably a CO2 laser. These units are a diode laser. different technology.
to raster engrave wood only about 25 watts of CO2 laser power is needed. 40 watts on a vector cut will do 1/4" wood.
They're getting a pretty good raster engraving , so just by the looks they are acheiving the same amount of pinpoint
heat as a 30 watt CO2. Doubtful they will be cutting thru anything but the thinest of woods and plastics. cheers!

Plus our bots don't have the speed or resolution for it.

Mine was just a cursory read thru the link but from what i gathered this was for "burning an image on" as opposed to cutting thru material. I guess for that you would need something stronger.

The lasers I'm talking about are not an addon unfortunately, they are the actual units, fslaser.com / automation technologies, rabbit lasers, boss lasers

Vectric PhotoVCarve is pretty slick if you haven't tried it. No laser needed.

The reason I looked into a laser was for granite and other hard material, also this 12x12 sample image only took 30min where as my diamond drag bit takes hours and cannot reproduce photos on granite.
