View Full Version : Quicker to use Shopbot or table router for ogee bits

I'm cutting a lot of frames and want to finish the edges.

Instead of changing bits for cutting the profile then cutting out it seems like it would be quicker to cut them all with one bit and use a table router with an ogee instead

Also any wood deflection seems to taper the bevel when using a v-bit I've noticed. So it seems doing it by hand would give more control

Any tips?

I make a Fly Tying Bench with the Top Rails and Base cut out and drilled on the shopbot but use my table router for the round over on the top rail. I make a first pass at 90% cut going with the direction of the cut then the last little bit against the cut, makes it much smoother and cleaner. I could do it with the shopbot but the top rails are a 3 piece glue up and isn't feasible on it.

Just my opinion.

I always edge finish on the router table. I find it faster, easier to setup and the 'bot can be working while I am as well so more production!

Thanks for the info

Glad I'm thinking along the same lines

Time for a trip to lowes.

Table router for sure, each tool has its strong points.
