I'm new to the cnc game but did some projects recently for some customers that I would like to share and possibly get some feedback and input.
The first project is an art piece for a local artist. This artist has used wood panels to project onto the surface video of moving water to give a "cascade" effect. In this next evolution of his design, we used a maple panel where I routed a pattern provided by my client with a 90 degree engraving bit at 1 o.c.. The idea is to give depth to the panel and add a 3d effect under the water projection. There were some interesting results where the paths would cross and make pyramid like shapes.

The second project was a trim panel that had some unique curves that would be hard to do manually. The panel was originally meant to go onto a mirror and sit into a niche as a decorative feature for a home but ended up just cutting out and glued onto a MDF backer board and eventually finished. I cut the panel out with the cnc and came back with a router to get the profile. Overall pretty straight forward.
The cnc has been great for this unique project and I use it for things here and there for our business but feel as I'm only getting 5% out of the machine's full potential which can't happen fast enough for me.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing your feedback.

New to CNC, setting up a used machine with issues, and a newborn in January!! Surprised you got any work done at ALL:)
Congrats Binh!
Yep, 2.5D like you're "Pyramids" can give some VERY interesting effects, and just changing depth and shape/angle of bit can drastically change appearance. Love it when you accidentally get pleasing shapes and the cutting times are 2D.
Does artist have any vids? Love to see what he's trying to do. Has he seen any of the textures you could do for a wall panel...Maybe something in a .5" Ball Nose and greater than 100% stepover in a repeating pattern(fast and easy)? Hard telling without seeing his work, can't Quite visualize it.
Haven't gotten into textures myself yet though in reality, but fun to play with previews.
Looking good, and can't wait to see some work when you think you're at 50%:)
Glad you got your problems sorted out!

Thanks Scott! I still getting to asking him for some pictures and videos. It's a very interesting effect and display. He's hoping it can be an alternative to lobby displays or some sort of feature for a public space.
Thank again for all your help and feedback!

Binh,
Is it my eyeballs...or is cut quality in midpoint of the artists piece not Quite as good as at the ends where you have 3 screws?
Possible to drop a couple more screws at midpoint to make sure workpiece isn't lifting? Even a small vibration from wood lifting as cut really affects finish and can mean a lot more time sanding.
May just be pic?
