I went on a longer road trip through northern Montana and Idaho and got stranded last week in the middle of almost nowhere with massive engine damage. Some 30 miles east of Bonner's Ferry, no cell phone connection, mountains and forest. While I coasted to a stop I noticed a driveway leading to a house with a small chicken farm. There we found some shade to assess the damage and a really nice old lady (age 78, running the business with a farm hand and "taking care of an elderly woman"). She loaned us her landline phone, organized the AAA tow, gave us water and ice cream and offered to share her lasagne lunch. Did not accept anything in return for her help. Well, you would not find that easily here in L.A.
So I carved a plaque for her business and will mail to her once the varnish is dried. I had only a 12" wide board and I hope she likes it. Maybe not a masterpiece of sign making but I find it cute.
