make 3d from pics. I haven't looked deep enough into this to check quality or whether it can make a true 3d object like a STL but it looked interesting enough to check out

Thanks Jack,
First time I even saw it mentioned was a couple days ago on Vectric Forum.

Looks like a couple people have started playing with it.

Looks awfully dog & pony to me.

I see they maintain the photo 'texture' on the surface like the cheap 3D scanners do to mask how horrible the underlying geometry is...

Brady - opinion on fuel-3D.com ?

I thought of doing this instead of the Shopbot probe

Will do 8x11 scans in one shot

The company told me they use it to recreate old molding in architecture also
Downside is - cannot do big jobs and metal reflector areas

http://www.123dapp.com/ To me is good just to have fun

Several have asked me about the fuel. It is a toy. read their white paper and do your homework. If you get a good scan from anything under $40k you got lucky. My good is different than most... If you only knew how much work I get from people who own scanners that don't cut it...

The SB probe is good for what it is. When you need something in high res just send it out. Support your fellow craftsmen that do this professionally. It's silly to think it just takes a press of a button...save your cash and start with the probe.

That was what i was afraid of....if you just want to make a 3d object that you can look at and use the photo as a cover ok but for our purposes of using the "shape data" without surface attributes like a photographic skin then this is another useless venture for our purposes.
