Can you use sharpies from Walmart in this device?

I hate proprietary items if I rely on them for my business with no alternative

If they go belly up - I can't provide that service anymore

I have no idea. These plotters use the short pens. The problem isn't the plotter, it's Sharpie. They sold a line of short, fine line markers that the original plotter used. You will see that they only sell this 'thick line' plotter because Sharpie stopped making those pens. So if Wally mart has the stubby ones & Sharpie doesn't pull them from production, you should be good.
