Needed a steady rest for my Shopsmith lathe for some larger pieces I'm planning to turn. How great to be able to make the frame and aluminium supports entirely with the Shopbot.

Nice job:)
Is that Red Gum Graeme? Or are you going to turn a Lolly column(if so, that's a wonderful job of coloring the concrete core:)

I have been looking for something like that for a long time but not one that would take a thick wallet to buy. Graeme, any chance you would want to share your dxf or vectric file on this, I would have to modify the way it attaches to the bed (I have a large and midi Jet) but I could do that much .

Thanks, Joe

Scott,

No - not red gum - the frame is made of ply-wood - just joking, I don't know what the wood is. It arrived in a mixed lot I bought - no identification. As good as I am with many woods, this one eludes me.

Joe,

I'm happy to share. I'll put together some files as soon as I can. Yes, the cost of manufactured items was too high for me too. For this project, ply-wood $20, aluminium sheet $34, wheels $24, nuts and bolts $4 plus knobs and 3-prong Propel nuts ~$10.

Cheers

Looks great! I also love making tools and accessories for my other tools. It really makes you appreciate having your own CNC.

Thanks, Brady.

I love the fact that I can make so many tings with a CNC - always satisfying. But, yes, there's a different kind of satisfaction making a tool for a tool.

Two DXF files - one for the frame and the other for the aluminium wheel supports.

Yep, that pesky day job always gets in the way. I think from planning to production of this was at least two and a half months.

Given up roller blading? Now I just run in the boots instead of rolling :D

I'm going easy on you, Scott. Wouldn't want to scare you off before I arrive :D However, if the bar is raised to live lobsters in the bed (thoughts of The Godfather), you'd better watch out.
