Hi,
I have owned a 2001 48"x96" PRT for many years. It has been very good to me, but it is finally time to upgrade. I am considering getting a new one with a spindle and all the whistles. I am also considering getting a used one. Is there a particular year that ShopBot modified things with their machines so I should get newer than a particular year?
It doesn't seem like they are doing upgrades every year.. How old of an Alpha is still the same design as the brand new ones?
Thanks!!

p.s. I build skis with my ShopBot....... slantskis.com

Late 2009-2010 or newer is very similar to the newest model. 4x8 & larger, make sure it has 1) 6 legs and not 4 like the early ones and 2) Newer style YZ car, not the kind with the 8 v-roller bearing contraption.

2013+ will have AR series Alpha motors (digital) compared to the older AS series (analog) motors. Not a huge difference there other than the motors are a little quieter and smoother. Most will also have an X axis Kabelschlep e-chain on the X axis standard, compared to optional in earlier years.

There are a few other subtle changes over the years but nothing I can think of right now that would matter much.

Can 2 middle legs be added to an older model that only has 4?

Yes. Call SB for a quote.

It would be 2 legs, gussets, and 3x5" crossmembers (top and bottom), plus hardware.

You are close enough to drive there and pick them up.

Thank you, Brady. Exactly the info I was looking for.
Based in this I'll probably be looking for a 2013 or newer.
