Daveo…
I’ve ordered a number of bits from them over the years… Their large V-bits are unobtainable at their price other places… However, my experience is that the angles aren’t very precise. This means you’ll have to play around with the angle definition to avoid step marks in your deep v-carves… Or, because you can afford the large bits, you can also follow up with a second toolpath where the stepdown is defined as the deepest cut you’ll make…

"1/4" Cutting Diameter; 1" Cutting Length; 1/4" Shank Diameter; 2-1/2" Overall Length; 2 Flute" (https://www.magnate.net/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=1968)

Looks like a 1/4" ball end mill....nothing special. I'd buy an end mill.

Personally I have ordered at least 150 bits thru out the years. Their bearings are not first rate. The Cutters are in the ballpark of most cutters. They are not priced out of range. I have gotten great results from them and had compliments of the results. Les face it can the "average" person see a few degrees difference in a cut??? Don't think so. I would buy them and see what you think!!!!!!!

One of the tapered bits I'm looking at is not carbide...Will this bit last?

Not carbide? The link takes me to a bit that says it’s solid micro grain carbide…

It does? I pasted that from my iPhone Amazon app and it is not showing me that information - but glad it has it

Only have over a half dozen of their pointed roundovers and liked them until I tried the Whitesides(better cut it seems).
Magnates do come to a true point though and come in a lot of various geometries which is not the case with Whiteside though(definite small flat on Whiteside .5D .25"R)
Whiteside gives me a slightly higher feed because I don't have the teeny sharp point though.
Just thought I'd mention in a Magnate thread.

Why do you need a tapered bit? Seem like a waste of money to me unless you are 3D finishing without roughing or doing a mold cavity where burnishing is an issue.

What's your criteria for selecting this bit?

It had the deepest cut of 2"

Never know down the road the thickness of material I may cut into without roughing

Otherwise I'm ordering the cheap ball end mill with 1" depth

For tapered bits try these:

http://www.beckwithdecor.com/index_files/Cutters.htm

Gary is a working pro and Artcam Agent as well and is extremely helpful and responsive to customers.

I think the price shown for the Magnate is too high.

He's a full Onsrud dealer as well. Check them out.
Another source of great bits that is sort of a Shopbot insider supplier is www.centuriontools.com (http://www.centuriontools.com)
They serve the North Carolina furniture industry and have some great specialty bits they developed based on SB users input.
All US made and great service.
Oberg bros tools is very good for end mills but you need to know what you want.
www.ballewtool.com (http://www.ballewtool.com) deals several brands including Whitesdide and discounts orders of ten or more.
There are cheaper suppliers on ebay of imports but I like to support American as long as the product is good.
