I have searched without finding the answers.

I have the 3.25 hp Porter Cable with the speed control switch.
From what I read I cannot use a speed controller with routers that have one built in. Is this true?

If so is there a router the same diameter as the PC without speed settings?

Is it possible to get a PC style router to run at 5,000 rpm/7,500 rpm?

Is there a speed control unit that is recommended or is is not recommended to use one at all?

Yes the 7519 is the same router as the 7518 but without the speed control

Check out the Super-PID (http://www.vhipe.com/product-private/SuperPID-Home.htm). Supposed to work with the 7518 set on the highest rpm setting.

OK I see how the Super-PID works, and it is intriguing. In order for it to work though, it needs to have an eye right at the router spindle at all times. This could be problematic, with dust collection foot and flying chips. Another issue is it cannot run with a router that has a speed control or a click control. So would also need to buy a new Porter Cable router, the 7519 I assume...

I could probably buy a Chinese spindle for the same money...

Quote from the site..."Super-PID requires a router that does not have an internal speed control or that has an internal speed control with a "click" type bypass switch at the full speed setting." I don't have one, but from my understanding, a PC7518 set to the highest notch should work as it is a click type control.

I have read of guys modifying the upper part of their router to put the 'eye' inside the housing.

Check out UGRAcnc (http://ugracnc.com/) He has a good selection of spindles that will take the worry and hassle of finding just the right one on Ebay, Ali Express, or Alibaba. There's air or water cooled and VFD's. Just ordered a small 0.08KW air cooled one for a project.
