October 1'st 2013 decided to make Mom a birthday present with only starter bit set in Ebony with 2 months experience(Cocky and ignorant).
To a beginner, pocket looked good cut with 61-040...Kinda ashamed of it now.
REALLY screwed up on a 2 sided cutout and shelved it....FOR 2 YEARS, Bad son, Bad son!
Came across it a couple days ago. Bevelled back edge to meet front on stationary belt.
THEN stuck it in a convection oven at 140F like I have a lot of other stuff so Linseed would penetrate better. WRONG!
Hairline crack developed as it cooled on backside is 1/3 of the way through it:(
Did my first conventional inlay and decided to use the "Twig" I had Vinlayed into Walnut.
Lousy pics, but except for front pocket... Kinda OK and will give 3 more coats and hopefully give it 2 years late for Christmas.
Oh, Left inlay in Walnut proud to get a raised inlay...definitely worth exploring again.

NOT happy with Mom's pocket, and 1/8" gouge to make a texture was a disaster:(
Semi fixed it with narrowest Exacto blade and "Death of a thousand cuts"and looks good if you don't get closer than 3'.
Anybody ever mucked with something so much you almost ruined it?
Hope it's true that it's the thought that counts.
Did better on Dad and Stepmoms at least:)
You guys aren't going to notice that when I did the front side I was frustrated that the board I had JUST surfaced the day before would NOT stay flat no matter how much I wailed on it with the deadblow.
Imagine my chagrin when I flipped it to do the back and found a dime shaped dent(and a dime on my spoilboard)!
OOPSY:)
Many thanks for Vectric forum and tatinc for the file in this thread!

It was a perfect saying for Dad and Joan.
Merry Christmas all!

Having a piece like that which isn't dead flat just makes it more natural Scott.
Looks great. I'm sure they will be quite pleased. Stop beating yourself up.

Damp cloth + clothes iron on cotton setting should get the dent out...

X2 on beating yourself up. Nobody will see the blems but YOU...

Thanks Guys.
Brady, Think I'll leave the imperfection in, besides...what the heck is a clothes iron? :)
Happy holidays from 60F Maine.
