What would you charge to build this? It is a horse feed storage cabinet. Lets say it is 8' long X 3' deep by 4' tall.

I'm thinking boxjoint connections hidden by the trim? Maybe some pockethole screws? Has anyone built anything like this? It is a basic simple cabinet but she was talking about lining it with tin, i guess to keep it from contact with the wood.

line it with tin to keep the mice out.

$1,000,000 :)
Just kidding, I think.

I'd do a quick materials estimate, figure the time it would take to make multiplied by what wage I'd want, then add 10%.
Off the cuff: $500-$700. But this move up/down based on my perception of the client and how bad I wanted the job.

I'd quote in the $800-$900 range.

Since I use eCabinets I would design it with mortise and tenon joinery for strength. The idea of lining with tin is great to keep the rodents out. I have to put all my animal and bird feed in steel trash cans otherwise the rodents get it. Even plastic trash cans are easy for rodents to chew threw.

The construction looks like frame and panel with MDO panels that are painted. Pretty easy construction.

You could design it in Aspire for cutting on the CNC.

It's an 8 foot long custom cabinet! If built like crud by an amateur it may be worth less than a thou but my basic price for melamine boxes that were completely standard Euro's with laminate slab or cheap thermo doors is 130/ft. With the liner, wood and paint or lam exterior and everything else this puppy should be at least a couple hundred a foot.

Jack,
Don't forget that the cabinet looks like it could hold 600-1,000 pounds of feed if full.
All pressing out, and being leaned on daily. Temptation would be high to stack extra feed sacks on top, but even if they don't, it could hold 1-2 hundred pound of misc. stuff.

Well this won't be as good as a "Bleeth professional" and given the odd size she wants it (6'8") for all sides, top, bottom, partitions, lid it is going to be 6 sheets of a good grade plywood. I don't use eCabinets so i can't design and cut mortise and tenon with it. My first thought was large boxjoints with glue and screws and trim to cover the joints. It's going in a stable not a kitchen, so no need for laminate or real expensive material. Does anyone see a problem with the boxjoint joinery? Also i was thinking about pockethole and thru wall screws for partitions because she eventually wanted to resize the different compartments because she's getting another horse soon. I appreciate the advice from the pro's.

I'm not sure what I would charge to build it, but I can offer some advice on its construction.
In a cabinet like this, the main requirement is strength. There is a lot of weight involved, as Scottp55 pointed out.
I don't think box joints are necessary. I would use butt joints and full-length corner blocks on the outside corners, glued and screwed from the inside. I would dado the partitions and screw them from the outside, since the screw holes would be covered by the trim. I wouldn't use pocket screws as a structural joint, but you could use them for the trim. I don't think movable partitions are an option with this design. Sometimes people just need to accept that their design won't accommodate everything they want. Some things are mutually exclusive.
Good luck with your project!

Just thinking,
Might it not be easier to make one big box/tin the whole thing (with a bathtub type floor)/ and then use the dividers as a structural element?
I was thinking dado/drill 2X4,insert T-Nut and then glue 3/4" panel into the end pieces and then use Fastenal connector bolts to suck it in?;

Be a Bear without casters on the unit to move the main partitions, but doable to add a partition?
The connector bolts really don't look that bad(Nickel and Bronze are quite nice), and if the outside had strapping aligned with dividers, it would be pretty beefy for blowout prevention.
Don't think tinning the partitions would be necessary this way.
Like I said...just thinking.

I don't use eCabinets so i can't design and cut mortise and tenon with it.

If you have VcarvePro or Aspire you can do the mortise and tenons. You can also think about doing mortise and tenon joinery in the dados you cut for the inside divider panels. Makes everything fit nice and strong and line up nicely. I do like the idea of adding the exposed bolt heads as an aesthetic and structural element.

My first knee jerk reaction thought on price would be in the $600-700 range. Anyone that can afford to have that many horses can afford a nice custom cabinet. Not to say my price would be overcharging for that particular customer, but it's gonna take a good bit of materials and sweat.

Well after going out and seeing the property, they can afford something nice. She set the budget at $1200.00 so given that it will take 6 sheets of good grade plywood and other wood plus she wants another smaller one, i'm sure i can stay a few bucks under budget! I don't know how to use sketchup or i would like to draw up a model to show her.
