We were asked to make a temporary head stone for use while the family tries to agree on a permanent one… We made this 44” tall version out of ¾” Exteria. Two coats of spar varnish turned it a lovely shade of brown!

Anyone care to take a guess at how long this might last outdoors?
Thanks

Zero experience otherwise.
Nice piece Steve!

Steve,

Congratulations on a beautiful carved Head Stone. The shape is outstanding.

At my shop we use Extira for the concrete casting industry in my area. It's resistant to swelling while setting in wet concrete for a few hours. I've made lots of letters with it but it does have life. Over time it will begin to flake apart and become soft. Even when sealed up it will come apart. I'd guess your carving to last a few years depending on the climate.

The photo shown by Scott is exemplary.

Scott and Joe…
Thanks for your responses!
I told the customer “at least A year”… looks like I’m safe there!
