Earlier this week I posted a new thread "Crib Board Gift" and got a message that it would be posted when the Moderator approved it?
STILL haven't seen it....and just got the same thing when I posted a reply in "Playing with Firewood"

MODERATOR.....What am I doing wrong, and when will these be posted?

I admit the Walnut on the crib board was indecent at $5bf, but I make them so rarely that I was kinda proud of that board:)

Just wondering if I should try to repost?
Thanks!
scott

Scott:
I got the same message when my computer updated awhile back… they never appeared. Re-posted, and everything was back to normal…
Maybe just a glitch from the upgrade I did?
SG

Then there was also a short time when I couldn’t imbed the photos…

Thanks Steve.
That would be a PITA as I rambled on a bit like I do:)
Computer had just done that major Win10 update that first day, and Kaspersky just needed to reboot right after today's "Firewood" post. Hmmm.
Just going to add some pics of that Walnut crib board Dad wanted made for his friend to see if it happens again.
Thanks again!

That's a really cool cribbage board! I had a friend attempt one with my drill press a week ago on a piece of juniper that ended in disaster. I'm really looking forward to playing with the shopbot!
Just because I know nothing about it operation, may I ask how long the design took, and what was the cut time? Thanks for sharing, Scott!

Thanks Randy,
The design was a bunch of different stuff from previous crib boards a few years ago, and before I knew very, and knew NOTHING about layers and associating toolpaths with layers...so really can't say the design time now.
I got the William Morris "Lady in the Woods" from another Shopbotter(Thanks Rick), and I used a new bit I'd never used before and was VERY conservative as this is a one of, and had no more Walnut with that kind of figure and didn't want to botch it!
Here's a pic of this laptop's file cut times....I tweaked everything on the control computer and that's down because I have thunderstorms around me, and all electronics are shut down...BUT it's within a few minutes.
Of course I ran all toolpaths twice as it was a gift that reflected on my Dad, and wanted the cleanest cuts I could get.
The fonts and pocket for the leather feet on the back took maybe a total of 2 hours to run everything twice, as the smaller the font...the slower I go to reduce any tearout.
For production you could probably tweak it down a fair amount after testing, for the basic design.
No problem at all:)

SHOOT! "Moderator needs........" again:(
Did a nice explanation of why one ofs take longer.
But here were the rough times.
This is frustrating!

Scott...
what browser are you using? If I remember correctly, I changed to chrome when it started to work correctly.

Using Firefox Steve...dislike Chrome myself, but may change browser if this keeps up:(
Funny...been using Firefox since I started here.

Steve...got a new acquaintance in Texas...and he had a bunch of Mesquite blow downs at his deer camp in West Texas last month...he thought it wasn't any good for carving...was it you that said Mesquite was one of your favorite 3D woods?
Thanks.

There were a handful of posts stuck in there, waiting for moderation. Not a clue why but I think I released all the ones that were somewhat current.

Yes, Scott, I love working with Mesquite!

http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/showthread.php?20594-Christmas-presents%85
The problem with Mesquite is getting large enough pieces to build anything substantial… It grows as a weed in open fields and cattle won’t eat it. Ranchers must mow or burn it periodically. Only the stuff along creek beds doesn’t get mowed or burned and gets enough water to grow big enough to be useful. Mesquite sap wood is a bright yellow and contrasts nicely with the rich browns and reds of the heartwood. Next to Osage Orange, Mesquite is the toughest, most stable wood I know of… Plus unlike Osage Orange, it doesn’t throw sparks when you cut it!

Aah...The "Horned Frog" made it stick in my mind Steve!
Beautiful work!
Does it have to be acetoned/denatured before gluing?
I'll have to tell John to bring an extra chain and gas for his saw the next time he drives out to permanently replace his glass/plexi/air conditioner fan/Jeep windshield:)
Must have been a horrendous storm, as all the bark on the cedars was stripped off one side he said.
I wonder if that's Western Red?
I CERTAINLY didn't know Osage Orange threw SPARKS! :( Must have a high silica content(have to look it up)?
Must be a really nice wood to put up with cutter blunting.
Thanks again Steve!

Scott…
Mesquite glues up well… no pre-prep required!

Thanks Steve..I'll pass it on.
Only have a 2.5" cube of the stuff myself, that was part of a grab bag exotic gift a Scottish Small Pipe maker;
http://pinchbeckpipes.com/
Gave me for spending a day demoing the Desktop:)
I wonder what part of his Pipes he was using Mesquite in...Quite the nice "small scraps of exotics" I wound up with!
Only Cocobolo has been used so far. NICE WOOD!
Funny that it's waxed like some exotics except on one end where he cut it to fit his indexer(sealed that end with Linseed/wax)...not sure what I'll ever cut it into:)
Thanks!

OUCH....I looked at Chris's site, but never realized National Geographic did a video on him.
He was full of Shopbot questions, but I probably exposed holes in my wood knowledge a dozen times or more that day! :o

It's a pretty interesting short vid...and he's right here in Maine:)

Wow! Great video Scott! I've never played pipes that don't have a mouthpiece so that would be weird at first.
I'm down to a set of 'Kitchen' pipes (2 drones and a very quiet sound so I don't drive the neighbors crazy!) I'll have to add Chris to my list of places to visit! Never been to Maine. Was supposed to fly up to do a press proof on a catalog (Dingley Press) but then you got a crazy ice storm so I couldn't come... One of these days!

Thanks Mike....Yeah I loved the vid and got a better idea of what Chris was about:)
He's right in Hope,Maine on the road to Camden...Lovely area, and if you have any indexer experience you'd be VERY welcome! :)
I couldn't help him with that at all:(
Judging by his Smallpipe selections and the wood he gave me...he's got an exotic stash to die for!
I even have a piece of Spruce from when he renovated his shop that's almost 200 yrs old (1822).
He wanted me to make a 2 day trip after he got set up, but with no indexer experience I tried to hook him up with 2 other people(no go).
Probably be VERY enjoyable visit...and Camden is elegant!

Scott,

I've plotted out my route to include my favorite Canadian signmaker in Ontario on the way to Maine as well as Lisbon (Dingley Press), Hope and Kennebunkport! Works out to about 1200 miles one way. Now I just have to find the time in my schedule to do it!!! I'm indexing like crazy (I bought Gary Campbell's Sidewinder and have been 'playing'!)

Hey Mike,
There's an unofficial "New England Vectric Meet and Greet" being held at Leo's in Eastern Mass on August 19'th...If your Ontario signmaker is T.R.MacMunn..sounds like he is coming. Also Maybe Michael Mezalick and a long list of others;

Maybe start there, and then work your way up the coast:)
I know a really nice place to stay in Kennebunkport on a beaver pond with a California King water bed and nice Master Bath, that 2 Desktoppers from Oz gave high points when they stayed here last June for 3 days:) The price is certainly right!

YEP! Looks like you'll be seriously depleting your "Firewood" stash.
