View Full Version : Output Switch control of dust collector

I want to use an available output switch to activate an X10 type interface, which triggers with 6-18vac/dc or dry closure.
I assume the 5v TTL level output is not adequate. But, please tell me if that's wrong.
Otherwise, I think I need to create a simple transistor driver circuit and relay to create a dry closure.
Can anyone provide advice and/or schematics for the best way I should go?
Much Appreciated.
Denis

ShopBot sells a virtually plug an play relay board that has 5 channels. You can also use one that uses ttl voltage to activate the relay, similar to this, which I have used: http://www.winford.com/products/rly104.php

Ther is (or was) a very simple one transistor circuit on the Shopbot site to do this job if you don't wnt to buy the whole input/output board.

Here is a schematic of the board

Thank you Jerry. I see that the relay is 12v, but my Bot docs indicate that 24v is available near the output switches. Can you tell me where 12v comes from?

Denis...
That was a shared file from back in the day when PC power supplies were used

Gary,
So, is that to say the schematic sent by Jerry needs to indicate a 24v relay?

All you really need is a relay that can handle your proposed load that has a coil voltage of 5vdc.

The nice thing about that circuit is that you can source a relay with enough capacity and sets of contacts to have room for future expansion. I have that circuit in my machine and it not only controls my spindle but it turns my dust collector off and on using a second set of contacts.

Quite a few simple options here from Sears
