I am selling my ShopBot BT32. A potential buyer asked if it could be taken apart, put in a van, and then reassembled at their location. Has anyone ever successfully done this? If so, how difficult was it to do?
Thanks
Phil

Phil,
Sorry to see you are selling your 'goose that lays golden eggs'...
To answer your question, yes. It involves pulling the wiring out of the control box and securing it to the gantry. Then unbolting the gantry from the 1.5x6" aluminum extrusion table sides. Just put a pencil mark on each side of the gantry front to back where the gantry sits at the front of the machine for each reassembly. Lift off the gantry and lay it on some foam or moving blankets in the van.
Measure the height of the bottom portion of the machine from the ground to the top of the 'legs'. Make sure the van's opening is at least that big. You will also need ramps (2x10's are fine) to get it up into the van.
When you pull the wires out, remove the entire blue terminal strip from the control board. There is no need to unscrew any of the tiny screws that hold the wiring in. Send the whole thing out the back of the control box.
So that there isn't sadness...measure the XYZ of both the bottom and gantry parts as if they were each a box. Give those dims to the customer so they can (hopefully...) volumetrically measure the inside of the van.
If it won't fit in the van he can rent a uhaul open trailer and tarp it...which would be way easier on everyone's back.
