Happy to report, I will be moving into my new shop over the next few weeks. So... here's my situation for moving the machine:
PRS Alpha 9660. No door openings to move it flat. Largest set of double doors opens to 72", while machine's frame measures 78". :o

Thought: Remove gantry and control box. Here's the spooky part; try to "roll" machine up onto one side, onto heavy duty machine casters, roll out the doors.
Once I pass those doors, I can set back flat, place onto trailer and deliver to new shop 15 minutes away.

Am I risking damage to critical pieces by temporarily laying on it's side? As in, could it collapse a leg under it's own weight? Seems sturdy enough to try, but any input is more than welcome. Would rather not dis-assemble completely, but certainly don't want to risk damage to my old pal...

I'd just take it completely apart. It looks scary but in reality it's not. Just download the docs from ShopBot for a new machine setup and follow them. I wish I had done that when I bought my machine originally, it would have been far easier than moving it as one unit.

We moved two tools, a 4x8 and a 5x8, out of our old shop on their sides with no ill effects. It was pretty nerve-racking at times though.

Another on-its-side move. No problems at all.

Great - Thanks for the responses. While I'll still be re-setting and squaring regardless, I am really pinched for time, otherwise I'd likely tear it down further. I appreciate the vote of confidence for this method of moving.
