Hey all, I know at least a few of us have tried to fabricate OpenDesk designs

www.opendesk.cc

I've done a LOT of work with their files both in making them and designing my own stuff.

Over the years I've tried to make their designs easier to fabricate, and to that end I'm starting to share some of my work.

Here's one I just wrapped up: http://digitallyfabbed.com/#/olivia-desk/ (scroll do bottom for free file download)

It's a remix of the Olivia Desk. I've altered it so that you can use any 3/4" plywood, and I've added some furniture fasteners so that it's really easy to assemble by anyone, even non mechanical/technical friends and family if you want to make it as a gift.

So feel free to download the files and make your own (please do note the non commercial license). I've included DXF files, Vectric files and a 3D SketchUp model along with step by step instructions for assembly.

I'd love to see a build if anyone does one. All you need is a half a sheet of 3/4 plywood!

looks good.

I'm interested in those pinball / arcade cabs :) really want to add a virtual pin machine!

HA! I do have some Williams Pinball cabinet files, and that arcade machine was something I designed myself. Both of those plans aren't documented as well as this table, but if there's an interest we could talk...

I've seen a few other pinball and arcade plans out there (https://www.classicarcadecabinets.com) but haven't had the free time to delve into any of them. What I really want to build is a virtual pin machine, the biggest variable in those is the screen, most I've seen use TV's they rip the frames off, so preset plans don't always work the best or have a good finished frame. I'd prefer to work with a design that uses standard arcade monitors so it's easy to repeat build them. Laguna did a desktop arcade cabinet, it's on my list to test out.

I've made a couple of those arcade cabinets from that website. The plans are mostly good, some of the details I had to iron out. It's definitely an excellent starting point if you're making someone a new cabinet for a restoration, much harder if you're making replacement parts.

used to restore arcade cabinets, would have loved that site and owning a ShopBot back in the day.

Right now want to make myself a bartop arcade cabinet, and a pinball machine.

Eric,
I will give this a try. Can you send or post 8.5 files on your Google drive please? I do not have version 9

Regards

Mark

Unfortunately I cannot save down from 9 to 8.5... It's a really frustrating limitation of upgrading VCarve. HOWEVER! I did export a DXF file in that same directory that's already nested and ready to cut. All you need to do is toolpath each layer according to the layer name.

POCKET .6 = Pocket toolpath .6"
OUTSIDE .725 = Outside cutout at .725" (that's the thickness of the plywood, you might want to go a little deeper to be safe)
DRILL .25W .6D = Drill .25" diameter and .6" deep.

Make sense?
