View Full Version : Vac table PVC flange and ball valve source?

I'm getting ready to setup a vacuum table. I'm currently laying out my piping. It seems like the consensus is to use 3" piping for the manifold and then 2" to the table.
Does anyone know where to get 2" PVC 90 degree flanges that mount to the bottom of the table? See the pic attached that I took off the Shopbot website. The only right angle flange fittings that I can find are for household central vac systems. I found some schedule 80 straight flanges at McMaster but they were pretty pricey. Anyone have a source that they could share?
Anyone used these 3" ball valves from Amazon? The ones at Home Depot are double the price and are special order. https://www.amazon.com/Inline-PVC-Ball-Valve-Connector/dp/B00U2CE4T4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1531447123&sr=8-3&keywords=3%22%2Bpvc%2Bball%2Bvalve&th=1
Thanks!

I got everything I needed from a local plumbing supply house, price was on par with local Lowes but they had better selection of some parts like the ball valves and flanges.

check out the thread below before you use ball valves, there is a better solution. Ball valves will become problematic with repeated use. I can look tomorrow and let you know where I bought flanges.

I'm using similar ball valves on my setup and they work fine. They have a little stickiness when you first turn them. If you were flipping them open and closed hundreds of times a day I could see it getting old, but if it's only a few times a day, or even hour they're just fine for me.
Like you I ordered mine online, but I got everything else locally.
Just use a regular 90 with a nipple into the flange or a street 90 and the flange. All the pieces to build the system are stock plumbing parts.

Before you get rigid pipe, check out 2" flexible PVC. That's what I used. It's 1/10th the trouble to install and doesn't require elbows.

I'm curious why you want to use 3" ball valves? I'd think 2" would be fine. I used a 3x2x3 T to make my manifold and attached 2" ball values.

What I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B95RERM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Only a few bucks more than ball valves but easier to use and should last longer.

Thanks everyone. I have settled on the 2" Valterra valves for my manifold.
I still cannot find any 2" 90 degree flanges to bolt to the underside of the table. I spent an hour searching online and went to 2 local plumbing supplies. If anyone knows where to find them, I am all ears. If I can't find any in the next day or so, I'm just going to take JMCS' suggestion and just put a street elbow into the plenum hole and seal it off with silicone.

Make sure you get the stainless blade gate valves. The plastic I ones aren't rated for more than about 8Hg" or so because they'll distort and leak or implode....

I purchased my PVC flanges (shown below) from Harington Industrial Plastics. A search for PVC Flange yields many sources. Amazon also has them in a Van Stone flange, as well as one piece.

Does that stuff do well under vacuum? I'd think it'd compress and you'd lose a little suction? Calling Brady :)

Vacuum rating = 28”/Hg…

I've used regular shopvac hoses for years to connect the ShopBot table to the vac box and it works well. If I was going to rebuild though I think I would use the hose that Steve posted. Being able to connect to regular schedule 40 fittings would save a ton of duct tape!

I have never used flanges on the vacuum tables I have made I just machine the hole to fit close and seal with silicone. I used the Valtera valves the only thing I don't like about them are the T handles I have broken a bunch of them I need to make something better.

The flanges are really just for convenience. It makes it easier to attach to the plenum. You can use them or just drill a hole. The most important part is to seal it up! I'm not the biggest fan of silicone, the edges always lift after time, even with the good silicone, especially when trying to get it to stick to PVC. I would use PL Premium. It sticks to everything.

I cut my own flanges out of 3/4 sintra on the Shopbot. then I glued a street ell in and attached to the table

Corrugated (or vac rated) vacuum hose is a lot tougher than you'd think. The hose that came on my Fein T3 has withstood 25 Hg" from the Becker for an hour or more using a one-off jig.
X2 on flanges not being required - it just makes it easier to hook up a PVC system. Precisely machined holes in the MDF/support board seals off fine using regular vacuum hose ends...The Fein hose wiggles in there nicely @ 2.27" ID :)

I tried regular shop vac brand hose and it was flattened like a piece of paper...
I’m currently using a 2” heavy duty vac hose from Oneida with my vacuum table. With the 11 Hp vacuum pump (vac/blower)
My ball valves have worked fine for 4 years now.
