So at our train park we wanted the kids to get involved while on a train ride in the woods. If you have been following the news lately Southern Oregon is having some issues with wildfires! We try and promote good forestry practices and to that end we invited Smokey to be one of our Grand Marshalls for our International Event. During the week we played a game called "Where's Smokey?". I carved a Smokey and we set it out each morning and the kids had to find out where he was and then report back to the main office. With 37 miles of track we had lot's of places to hide. He was scaled down a little to match our trains. :D The kids loved the game and the Forestry Service provided Smokey and lots of trinkets for the kids. Lot's of fun for me too!

What a great, creative way to engage the kids. In this day and age, it is absolutely vital to get them out into the real world, making life-long memories.
Kudos to the parents for getting them there, and even more to all of you organizing this.

Best of luck for a safe, fun event!

Hope that's not you in the hot, furry get-up" Actually the low man on the totem pole from the local fire crew is 'usually' graced with the position of Smokey. The suit has a cooling system so it's not quite as bad as it looks. Because of our size (2,200 acres) we are often a staging area for the fire crews. We are also the hosting group for their annual picnic. We work with them during most of the hot, dry, summer months. Russ
