The heat that comes out of my vac pump is hot enough to melt plastic, literally. I noticed today a router bit sleeve on the floor by the muffler, it was distorted from the heat. I wonder if I could pipe this about 10 feet outside the shop? Would it have any effect on the pump? My shop is in South Carolina and my AC struggles even without the extra heat from the pump. Thanks, Kip

Kip, pipe it down to Gerald. It's mid winter there and I notice his appearence on the Forum is less now than in his summer. His fingers are probably to cold to type

Kip,

Come out of the vacuum pump with a larger pipe, insulate the pipe and put a screen over the outside exit. You should have no problems.

In dairies around here some actually use the heat from the vacuum pump to heat water. The muffler is usually moved to the end of the pipe.
