Just had to post this.... Doing a top flattening taking off .010. Noticed about .25 through the process it got quiet. So I let it finish...went to check my bit and it was gone! I have looked everywhere and no bit. Even emptied my dust collector. Didn't hear it hit anything, just gone.
So if any of you see a bit flying by would you let me know

Had a bit fly out of a hand-held router once. Looked all over for it, no idea where it went. About a half hour later, one of the other students headed back to the bathroom and found it...more than 60 feet away from where the other guy was routing when he lost it. Oh and the 1/4" shank was bent into a J shape......

Wow! Looked some more and the little bugger is hiding well. Something for the grandsons to look for

After umpteen years of router and CNC work, last Saturday, I was hit by a departing router bit! I was hit in the chest as I was sitting at the end of my Bot waiting on a file to complete. I wasn’t hurt but it wasn’t trivial either!

I’m rethinking where I sit or if some kind of guard is practical!

Did the bit break off, was the shank still in the collet?

Not to sound like your mother but this is a real example of why we should ALLWAYS wear safety glasses. Iv been hit with chips and broken cutters all my working life as a toolmaker. Iv lost count of how many times my safety glasses saved me. Just saying...

This is scary! I've never had a bit fly out......only snap and leave the cutting part in the material.
