I just learned that Joe Crumley passed away. Those of you that have been on the forum for a while will remember Joe as an amazing sign artist...probably the best that's ever been on the forum.... with very strong opinions on just about everything. I have only banned 2 people since this forum started, but threatened to ban him at least a dozen times!

If you're new here, do yourself a favor and search for any of his posts that show images of his signs. He was a true master.

He always had interesting lessons at the Austin “Camp ShopBot”. His “rootin tootin” Rubber cement paint mask worked!

So sorry to hear...I had asked him several questions back in 2008-09 when I was getting started...I chuckle now, but at the time thought I was dealing with one of my old drill sgts!! But his advice was always spot on! RIP Joe

Joe was a font of knowledge and was generous in sharing it. I was thinking about him a few months ago and wondering how he was. RIP

When a familiar face is gone forever, we're reminded of just how mortal we all are.

Godspeed Joe. You were the best "crusty old fart" I ever met!

I was thinking of Joe a couple days ago- I think he was 70yo in 2010 so just a bit older than I- see ya soon Joe.

Rest peacefully Joe. I loved your posts. I never had the privilege of meeting you in person, but learned a lot from you.

I met Joe a number of years back at a ShopBot camp in Wichita … His signs will remain standing for dozens of years and will be copied for much longer than that…

Hope someone will post a few pictures of his work.

This is sad news.

I was thinking I hadn't seen him post in quite awhile a month or so ago. I visited his website and sent him an email. I never received a response, and I hoped he was doing well, but this news is what I was afraid was the reality.

RIP Mr. Crumley!

Although i haven't frequented the forum for a while, i consider myself an "old timer" here. Owned a Shopbot for over 15 years and always learned something from him, as from a great many of you fellow "old timers"!

Rest in peace Joe.

Here's a post when I visited his shop in Norman OK on my way back from a field service job

Yeh that's bad news. I haven't been here in a long while but do remember both locking horns with AND respectfully learning a few useful things from Joe. God speed and warmest sympathy for his loved ones.
