How long can the cable going from my PC to the
shopbot box be.
I would like to move my PC away from the work
area and was wondering if a long cable would
make my files go nuts.
I found a 35' cable and would like to know if
it would work

I am using a 50 foot cable on my shopbot on a IBM
computer with no trouble. I did add a ups because
I was losing my conection with the shopbot when I turned on other tools.

Hi Sean,

How long you can go, among other things, is related to the electrical noise characteristics of your shop, and your specific serial port.

35 feet should work. After you hook it up and run your tool for awhile, check the diagnostics [UD] for any reports of 'communication errors' ... also, if you lose your connection during a session with the longer cord, it would indicate a susceptability to line noise.
