I was having a hard time keeping my Z consistant. I finally figure out I've got about .015 slop in it. When I grab the router bit, I can move it up and down. My pinion is tight and doesn't appear to be moving. So, my question is how do you know if the pinion or the rack is worn, or do you replace both. I know I've read that the pinion usually wears first, I don't want to do the job twice.
Thanks, Terry

Do you know that you might be able to take the slop out between pinion and rack by moving the Z slide sideways? It's mounted on eccentric bearings. If you rotate the whole bearing you'll seee it move.

Thanks John,
That took care of it. How tight or how much drag should their be in the rollers. With power off, I can move Z up and down, but with alittle effort.
