Has anyone tried to replace the collet chuck (the male threaded part) on a PC router? Someone with more brute than brains striped the threads out. It looks like it’s threaded onto the armature shaft but I cannot find a way to hold the armature from turning. Just thought I’d Ask before running down to the repair shop.

If I recall I used a 1 1/4" 6point deep well socket and a impact. Read this thread on bearing problems and there is some info in there someplace. Do a Ctrl+f "Find" and look for impact and there is some ref to it.http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/messages/26/3961.html

Thanks Ted! I'll give it a shot. Also thanks for the "find" tip. Never thought of using that little trick in a forum thread.

Scott,
Ted is right. When I put bearings in my pc I used an impact wrench, and instead of holding the trigger, I squeezed it on and off fairly quickly, the pulsing broke the nut loose easily.
