This is the fill-in sheet

3950

for this file
J3,0.0000,0.0000,5.0000
M3,0.0000,0.0000,0.0000
M3,786.0000,0.0000,0.0000
M3,786.0000,846.0000,0.0000
M3,0.0000,846.0000,0.0000
M3,0.0000,0.0000,0.0000
J3,0.0000,0.0000,5.0000

If I move the bit to 0,0,0 and run the file, it 'cuts' (or rather doesn't cut) 6 times at z=0.

If I change 'Plunge from 0' to '1-on' I get the same result.

If I change the cutting depth in the file to -4.2
(M3,0.0000,0.0000,-4.2000)
The bit cuts six times at this depth.
I'm trying to cut through 25mm of material.
I know there are other ways of doing this, but why doesn't this work?

Is this line J3,0.0000,0.0000,5.0000 causing the problem?

Should it be changed to J3,0.0000,0.0000,0.0000?

(Or should I assume it's Geralds' bad influence again?)

OK
I've answered my own question, but will leave this here to stop others making the same mistake (not that I'm suggesting any of you are quite as dim as I can sometimes be !!)

The fill in sheet quite clearly states "Parameters for 'templates' having just XY movements"
In my mind, because Z=0 throughout, I thought I only had XY movement, but it is necessary to have no third (Z) parameter.
It does still work with an M3 command with just 2 parameters though.

Could you be influenced to use M2 and J2 commands?

Today I was trapped in my village by the world's biggest timed cycle race (http://www.velomondial2006.com/argus.asp) <---- bad influence: drift starter....

But the more interesting sport was when Australia set us a score of 434 to beat in a ODI 50 over match.....and we did it! You have never seen cricket like this - 870 runs off 100 overs!

Just slightly off topic :-)

No one else know what you are talking about!

who would have believed scoring 434 and getting beaten and it went right to the last over. It was a great effort from the Proteas.

Gibbs 175 of 115 and Ponting 164 off 105 I am going to be glued to the replay.

It was a good series going right the the penultimate ball after 500 overs of mostly good cricket.

The truth is, the Ozzies still haven't recovered from the Ashes drubbing

It's my thread and and don't mind this thread drift
