I am looking to up-fit my PRT 48 to a 96. I understand that one can do the rack in sections to lenghten them...I am wondering-if I buy used sections should I be concerned with the wear on them?

The wear on racks is slight compared to the wear on a pinion gear. If the teeth of the rack look okay to the naked eye then they are probably okay enough. No need for magnifying glasses. Wear on the rack does not affect the precision (or unit value), but do make sure it is the same tooth pitch that you already have.

I just changed my rails this week. I had an Alphaprt 120 which I converted to an Alphaprt 144. I purchased new rails from ShopBot to speed up the process. The complete conversion so far has taken about six hours. This includes welding two foot sections of c-channel to the existing table. Removing and reinstalling and fine tuning the new rails. Also rearranging my cables to reach the additional 2 feet. At this point so far I have not added the mechanism for mounting my indexer.
