Can I get 3.5 - 4.5 volts dc from the control box without causing myself any problems. I have a cross laser module & I'd like to wire it up to locate corners, TIA Neville

You *should* be able to get both 3.3v and 5v from your PC power supply. You can get 5v from the control box - just watch the current you are pulling.

Need to dust off my basic electronics book, it draws 5mW.

Neville got it the same place as I did.

This one projects a fairly fine line, they do not all do that.

For less than five bucks it may be hit and miss.

myself I was going to go with such a laser but I wonder about accuracy. beam size and how straight the beam comes out of it. I went with one of these http://www.lasercenteredgefinder.com/main.html
the only bad part is you have to chuck it. but it is handy for other jobs too like doing air cuts and doing oddball setups.

Greg, Are you a long lost relative? Seems like we shop at the same kind of sites.

These cheap cross lasers permanently fixed are great but if you're after high accuracy then look elsewhere.

0.01" accuracy can reasonably be expected but no better.

For 90% of what I do on my router it is the ducks nuts.

Comparable to lining up the tip of a vee cutter to an edge or spot by eyeball.

Where they shine is as a time saver.
