I was going through the Marlin P. Jones catalog -link: http://www.mpja. com and found a 24V 25A power supply for $39.95- pn 11233-PS. The only drawback is it for 220V only.

A good price for those who can use it.

This is a switcher, not linear PS. Will it still work with SB ?

Larry:

Provided you have 220V, I do not see why not.
The powersupply that ShopBot currently uses is
also a swiching power supply.

There are many debatable issues of linear versus
switching powersupplies, but my opinion is if it
supplies the right voltage and current and the
price is right, buy it!

Be sure to put the BIG caps on at the connection points as SB recommends.

This is especially true if you are using a switcher.

I am getting my shopbot in about a week, so I do not have a bit of experience yet. What exactly is the advantage of upgrading the power supply?

Thanks

Tim,

There's a good explanation of the benefits of various power supplies in the " Variations and Modifications " catagory. I think it's titled "info on power supplies"
