I recently switched over from using photoshop 2.5 to a program called Gimp.

It is a Graphic IMage Proccessor (hence the name) that is very much like photoshop except in price. If anyone is looking for a drawing program for scanning, etc this is at least worth a look.

It is avilable for free at

www.gimp.org/win32/

I use this in conjunction with another free program called WinTopo to scan images, process them, and convert the bitmaps to DXF files.

Then use Turbocad 2D (also free) to scale, rotate, etc the dxf file before bringing it into vector to create the toolpath.

If anyone is using any other free programs in the creation of sbp files, I would be intrested to know.

Gimp is a program that is very unstable and wintopo is ok but only does straight lines and Turobcad 2 is fine but not much of a work area but its still ok.

But FREE is still good

I have been using gimp a great deal and have had no difficulty (crashing, wierd stuff, etc) though I suspect the linux port is more rugged.
