Looking for a CAD program that will automatically draw gears with a minimum of input. A friend of mine has a Bot and wants to cut some LARGE wooden gears for a hobby project to show his Grandson how gear trains work. Any help would be appreciated!!

Jerry,

I found a couple AutoLISP programs that I can run on AutoCAD. Do you have a copy of AutoCAD or access to one? If not maybe I could get the sizes from you and output a few dxf files for you.

BobCAD has a gear 'wizard' under the 'Other' menu. You just fill in the boxes with diameters, pitch and angles and it makes it. You can then export it as a DXF and pull it right into PartWizard.

Stickman,

Where did you find the AutoCad LISP program for the gears? Is it a free download? I am interested in getting the file to help with clock gears. Thanks for info.

Thank you gentlemen for your help. I will pass on your suggestions and I'm sure one of these will work for him.
Thanks Again,

There is a free plugin for 3D Studio Max that will do 3D gears. Makes nice beveled tooth gears. You set the number of teeth, size, depth of teeth and thicknes and it makes the gear.

This can then be DXFed out.
