For those doing development work on stepper motors, the G100 pulse generator shown in the 3900IPM.AVI video, which can be downloaded here at http://www.geckodrive.com (http://www.geckodrive.com/product.cfm?pid=19) (edited by request) shows a linear stage running at 3900 inches per minute or 65 inches per second. The G100 pulse generator will be able to run six steppers at that speed (or faster) with all steppers totally sycnronized so that if any motor slows, all motors slow. (The pulse generator is the 2x6 inch black rectangular box with the green plug on the right end.)

I'm not trying to generate controversy with this video, but to show what is already available. I've been using the OEM version of the G100 since it was available in late 2005. From the volume of emails that I've received from honest-to-goodness OEM developers, when this thing hits the market in a few months, those who have waited in the wings before trying it out might be playing a futile game of catch-up.

At the very least, the video is the most interesting process control video that I've ever seen.

For those who might be alarmed that the sky is falling, please remember that this is the DEVELOPERS part of the forum, where DEVELOPERS alert other developers, both inside Shopbot and outside Shopbot, of new trends and possible products that could be incorporated into future products. I personally have a great interest in seeing that Shopbot stays ahead of the competition. Ted and those who work with him have put their souls into Shopbot. It would be uncaring on my part to let un-noticed competion sneak up.
