I just saw Festool's 32mm cam action side clamp and it looks like it could be useful for those who clamp material and jigs to the table.
it's designed to be used like a bench dog, with a 32mm hole. (can be sanded to fit 3/4" bench holes) it works like a bar clamp with a cam action that tightens up the bar. it clamps from the side and has a low profile so errant bits aren't a problem.
best part is that the clamp pads are plastic.
you'll need to machine holes in the table with some offset to accomodate the pad and table mount. it has a good 8" adjustment so one mounting hole can be used for several fixtures.
I saw it at a local WoodCraft, it's probably available online from your favorite outlet.
