After not taking a slatwall gig I get another request for display stands with slat wall.
I purchased a Frued bit today.
Any suggestions on speed and feeds?
I have a prs alpha. Cutting in 3/4" mdf

well tomorrow I will venture in.
I can start at 12,000 and move 3 IPS and work from there.

David,

Use a straight bit first to remove as much waste as possible as you only have a single pass with the slat bit. Otherwise the feeds and speed depend upon your setup, ie spindle router etc.

One other gotcha is that by releasing the tension on the MDF on one side only the board will tend to cup so you need to hold it down well. Use screws as well as vacuum.

I have cut a few slat wall panels and every time I promise myself not to do it again. But I guess work is work, just make sure you charge for it.

i have yet to find a slatwall i could not purchase at far less agony than the cost of machining it.

The slatwall requested has premium laminate on both sides. If this works out you will see them in Walmarts and other retail stores. The customer is giving them with the sale of their product.
Cross your fingers for me,,,,,I need this so bad.

my company uses space wall for slatwall, and I think they are nation wide. I can sell LPL white mdf core slat wall with inserts for $96.00, they cost us about 65.00 to buy. HPL like formica white sells for about 160 with inserts and 125 without. I would just have them made and resell them, even if it is only for %15 mark up.

I just delivered a couple of displays made from slatwall and i dont think i would consider machining it for what i pay. I get the bare plain slatwall for about 50.00 and build the displays , Paint them the vendors color and clear about 400. per unit.
