Has anyone used these router collet extensions?
If so what do you think of them?

Yep...me too ~ bad idea. Plan on replacing router bearings sooner than you expected as well.

I used the Jacobs power collet and the other one that uses an allen wrench to lock the bit in and, though they worked for their intended purpose (more or less), the amplification of the run-out because of the extension was unacceptable to me.

That extension piece, which reduces a 1/2" collet down to 1/4", is attractive to me. It will allow deep work with small bits. I probably won't use a cutter larger than 1/2" and I would watch for vibration. Not for heavy cutting loads.

Hi Jim

I have used these quite a bit in a fixed base router with up to 50mm dia cutters, in the shopbot I use it for small cutter that will not
protrude below the dust skirt.

I also have one of these from MLCS. I use it in my Hitachi 3HP in my router table. Seems to work fine. I have not tried it in my Bot' yet. The runout issues and bearing issues might make me think twice about it. IF I did put it in the Bot, I would seriously reduce my depth of cut and cutting speeds.
