Can anyone suggest if this type of vac pump would be suitable for vac bedding (ebay):
Becker - Rotary Vane Vacuum Pump
( Model U 4.20 )

Oil-lubricated, air-cooled, version with gas ballast valve.

Being sold as used, but in excellent condition and as new.

240V
Range U 4.20
Flow, m3/h @ 50Hz 18
Ultimate Vacuum, mbar Absolute 0.5
Motor Power, kW 0.55
R.P.M. @ 50Hz 2800

I would also want to use it for vacuum bag pressing - any experience most welcome.

This is a pic of a vacuum pump I bought on ebay recently. Was used for 3 months before the company went out of business - purchased for $6500 usd. It is being used with a Thermood c42 dual table router. Might be a little overkill for the average shopboter but I thought people might like to see it.

5305
Specs:

Liqued ring sealed pump
575 3 phase
50hp
750cfm
28.6" mercury

It seems to have good holding power!!

Do you need much stronger return springs on the Z axis?

Snag with the stronger springs will be that you dare not switch the vacuum off - the z-axis will shoot out like the bolt out of a crossbow. Imagine those long gantries becoming longbows....
