Yes, other types of routers are mentioned all over this forum.

Paul
I use a Metabo, I have also used a small black and Decker!!
I think that it is probably possible to construct a bracket for any make of router ,with the power you require, providing its dimensions allow it to go up and down between the Y carriage. I guess there is an upper weight limit as well.

Some ideas. link (http://www.mechmate.com/Forum/messages/47/49.html?1134217047)

Milwaukee seems to be a popular flavour on this forum now.

Ryobi don't appear to get good press, but we have five of them working hard. They have soft start and ,compared to our porter cable, are very quiet.Ours are 2050 watt./230v.,variable speed.

I've run the Makita that Shopbot offers as a router option. I've been fairly happy with the router. However, recently I had to replace the collet. I ordered the collet through a local hardware store who deals directly with Makita. It took two and a half weeks to get the part. Also it cost $24. That price included the collet nut which I didn't need. It couldn't be ordered without the nut. Personally I wouldn't buy another Makita because of the collet issue.

I've been using a Bosch 1617 for years for light duty work with good sucess. The one thing that I really like about it is the noise level...it is very quiet. However, it is a small unit and does lack power.

Currently I'm thinking of upgrading to the Milwaukee since the Bosch's is starting to make funny noises (not that I push it too hard sometimes).

From the postings here the Milwaukee seems to be a really good option - lots of power and not as noisy as the Porter Cable.
