Output switches

let's say I wanted to put an air switch on my shopbot to run off one of the output switches in the control box. I know there's a diagram in the manual for a 12v relay hook-up, but I want to know if it would hurt anything to run a 5v, circular pin relay off the output switch without the resistor, diode, ect. included in the diagram? or is the current not stong enough the activate a 3amp relay? just curious as to what my options are.

The output switch as only 5ma Max. You can use the output switch to a switching transistor. then use the 12v from control box with resistor to get 5v.
