I was curious about how much a spindle would set me back and I had read that ELTE had come out with a spindle that had an integrated inverter. I finally tracked down someone who could give me a quote...1495 (I don't think that includes shipping or any collets, etc). Not a bad price though for a real deal spindle. The biggest integrated inverter spindles are only 1.5Kw (2hp) though. Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone was interested.

see:

scan down to tmpe series, then TMPE3 12/2 18000rpm.

I don't think the TMPE3 series is the one you are talking about. Maybe the STK series.

Anyway, I have a 1.2hp and a 3hp Elte and have been very happy with the performance. I've had the 3hp for over a year and have worked it relatively hard from time to time. The 1.2hp is a recent addition on my smaller CNC and has really made it a pleasure to use. I bought mine through http://www.fps-spindles.com/. They are the US distributors and Pete Kiro there has treated me very well.

I bought my VFD's separately from local private parties and have seen them on eBay for very good prices...well under $500, some as low as $250.

My next project is to have my software control them instead of having to set them manually. The modbus programming seems a little daunting, though.

I think they are just slapping an integrated inverter on whatever fits your requirements.

It's kind of a false economy...SB sells the HSD 2.2HP spindle with excellent collet nut for $1995 (sans the knuckle-busting castle nut like the Colombo 3HP), you get 4 collets, a set of wrenches and the correct commercial grade electrical line for your tool, ready to wire up. Not sure how much the Elte electrical line is, but it could very well be over $500 depending on your tool...Things to consider. I personally like Colombo best, and HSD 2nd best. The Elte seemed a bit 'cheap' in it's construction when I held one in my hands at a trade show. The Colombo & HSD are also able to be controlled via the latest version of SB3. Not sure if the included inverter will do the same or not.
