I didn't get my shopbot for signs. It'll be busy during the day. But at night...

...I'm drooling over the thought of making a sign or two for friends, or maybe for tradeing. So, just curious, what does a 4x8 sheet of signfoam cost right now? I know it comes in different thicknesses. I just need a good idea of cost. Thanks!

OK, I probably answered my own question. Here's a price list for a distributor in St. Paul, MN. Please chime in if you think the prices should be better.

Those prices seem to be in line with what I am paying from my distributor. Sometimes the price may be a little lower if you are willing to buy several sheets at once or if your supplier stocks a lot and gets a discount on his price.

Be aware that some lesser brands of HDU sell for less, but then you get less also. The SignFoam3 brand is one of the best on the marker, in my opinion.

Precision Board, by Coastal Enterprises, is also a top quality HDU, although it tends to create more dust than SignFoam when you are working with it. I also think that SignFoam3 has a smoother working surface. One advantage of Coastal Enterprises is that their personnel are top notch and very responsive to problems.

And SignFoam may be the same way...I just haven't had as many personal dealings with them.

Having said all that, my present personal choice is SignFoam3.

The "New Kid on the Block", Duna Board, is the least expensive and best for CNC routing.

I just sent an Inquiry but still, is this HDU?

Mark, you tried it and you liked it?!

James, do you happen to know a Canadian reseller (that's what I inquired about to US rep.)?

Paco, yes, it's HDU. I like it because it's less expensive and for me it just routs better. I can get finer detail without chip-out. It's the same density as I always use (15#), but seems to be a little tougher than the other brands.

Sorry Paco - Don't know if they sell it in Canada or not (perhaps an opportunity...) I just googled it and got lucky so thought I would post the link. Cheers, JAmes

The rep. reply to me and it look like some Toronto individual might get to represent 'em for Canada... from what he's saying, it doesn't sound like he believe his products is any cheaper than current HDU... more later.

For those on the West Coast, I inquired about Duna Board from Duna's Western Rep, Dave McNeely. Real nice guy. Out here they call their HDU CoraFoam, & he's looking to get the word out. He said their 15# costs about 25% less than SignFoam3 & matches it in quality & cellular density/consistency.

He said that his 10# CoraFoam exceeds General Plastics' Sign Foam3 in quality for cellular consistency & surface density/smothness & does not chip out along edges. For this reason & the cost savings, he said his biggest customer in Las Vegas switched from 15# to 10# for most of their work.

He is sending me three 6"x12"x3/4" samples in 10#, 15#, & 20# densities. A 4x8x3/4" sheet would run about $125 for the 10#. Not sure how thick the stuff goes up to, but he threw out some numbers for some 1.5" sheets that I didn't catch.

Actually, YES! They are sending me some samples to cut. They have all but promised to start stocking 10# Duna if I like it, and I think I'm gonna like it! :-)
