View Full Version : Benchtop Footprint Height
The benchtop footprint height is listed as 88 inches. The space being considered for use is floor to ceiling 82 inches.
Is this semi flexible? Or are there some options for lowering the table by 6 inches?
Of course cutting a hole in the ceiling might be an option to gain 4 inches or so... in which case it would only be 2 inches too tall.

You could always get rid of the hoop and install a real cable carrier. That would lower it quite a bit.

I needed just 2"clearance with dust collector hose. The cable carrier works great.

Red,
When I first bought my Shopbot I had the same problem. I used a piece of 1/4" rope and guyed the cable carrier down far enough for clearance. My ceiling light was at 80". It looked a bit strange with the extra dip in the middle but it worked fine. Since that time I sold that Shopbot and when I got my PRT Alpha I changed over to Ingus cable cariers and I like them much better.

The cable carrier would work great. Is that a tricky installation?
Frank, what size carrier are you running?
Thanks for the suggestions.

Not at all tricky in fact it was very easy. I have a small carrier on the X car and a larger one for the rest of the cables along the X axis. Both from Ingus cost me under $180.00 including shipping. Of course this was over 2 years ago so it may be a bit higher. If you just purchase the smaller one it will most likely cost under $100.00.
Here is there phone number and web address www.ingus.com 1-800-521-2747
If you need exact measurements let me know and I will measure them.

My small one on the Y car is 52" and the X car is 90"
My table is 61 X 144 so if yours is smaller you can use shorter ones. There are 2 methods I have seen pertaining to lenght. Some have used longer chains containing the wires for a longer distance. I chose to only use enough E-chain to facilitate the part that moves. The remaining distance I used standard tie down methods. The longer the chain the more the cost.
Here (http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/show.cgi?tpc=28&post=42502#POST42502) is another link to discussion about E-chain
For more info type in Igus or Echain in search and you will find lots of discussion about them.

Generally the handiest is the snap-open as you can install and then lay your bundles in it. I believe the E-2 has enough widths to choose for both y and x. I did not get the divided one as you can always keep your spindle and the rest seperated with a few wire ties. IGUS has a page for figuring length and their formula tends to add a couple of links more than bare minimum required. Their rep at their 800# is very helpful and will send you the quote once they work out your needs with you.

Dave, is correct about them figuring out your needs. That is how I did it. My E-chain is as he describes. I can flip the top open to place the wires. Also included was seperater bars to seperate the wires. It was al very easy to use.
