Z Axis went out

I had a problem this afternoon and do not have an explanation for it. My Z axis after cutting a 3D object just went out. Unfortunately, before it raised itself to go to the next location. I hit EStop after it had moved about 3 more inches and sucked up a piece of Corian held only by small vacuum, broke it and threw it at me. The Z axis would not respond to computer control. No errors were displayed. I moved it up by hand which was strange. I powered the control box off and back on, and it has worked fine so far. Any ideas? I have an older PRT Benchtop with 4G upgrade and router.
