I have found out the older PR pinions are $150 for 3 instead of $50...

Anyone find a supplier or a work around to this extra cost?

Thanks,

Well I went ahead and ordered my X and Y gears from shopbot and yes it was $150 for the 3...I went to www.bostongear.com (http://www.bostongear.com) and using the part # on my old gears could not find the correct gear for my machine, also with Boston gear you have to buy thru a dist. maybe McMaster Carr??? My z gear is 18 teeth so I did not change that one...yet.

Nothing yet.

I am waiting for the connectors so I can hook up the new controller. The ones I have may be ok. I would put new ones on for $50, but for $150 I have to make sure I really need them.

I also may get new motors and the $100 could go towards them...

why new motors, connectors? did you buy the machine used...can you post a photo? I also have an older pr machine that was upgraded to prt controls/z axis, I am thinking about upgrading further to the 4g controller and the retro z axis...I really would like to purchase the prs machine but the tool budget has really shrunk this past year....ouch!

The connectors where suppose to ship with the 4g controller but got left out. They allow the old cables to plug into the 4g.

The old motors seem to have excessive run-out so I was thinking if new motors allow me to use the regular less expensive pinions it might be worth a look. I am thinking about some less expensive motors than the $450 ones from SB. I will be trying what I have now first though.

I have recently re-acquired my old pr. Ir still has the old ball screw z. It has a nice steel table and is 5.5' x 12'.
