my customer has been giving me great drawings. but these small pieces are importing wrong and he can't work it out. I think he draw the curves wrong but I can't open them in turbocad and vcarve imports some of them wrong. can someone look at these and see whats wrong? a fixed version would be great.

It looks to me like they've been drawn in a 3D package but with the creator thinking in 2D.

I've seen this lot with customers that draw their designs in Sketchup. It looks great to them in top view but when the view is rotated a lot of the lines they've drawn aren't planar.

I have a older version of turbocad so that could be it. bop just sent me them back but they still don't work right. try opening them in vcarve. the curve ends don't line up and a couple they are really off.
he got all the drawings right till these. they are all just outlines. not sure if he used 3d but he could have.

This shows what one looks like from a top view.

But if you rotate it a bit you get this.

Other than redrawing I'm not sure what can be done about it.

i have redrawn rocket tip and email it back to you. see if that makes a diff.

If I save it in my 2010 version of autocad then Vcarve pro or Aspire will not read them. I have to save as dxf autocad 2004 to be read.

I had him save it in the 2004 format but it still had problems.some how when he drew them he messed it up. Paul got a good version of it. but he had to redraw it. I only use turbocad to resave files when they are wrong. I pretty much only draw in vcarve.

Steve, check your email.

It is clear to me that whoever created these did so without insuring the lines were all created on the same plane. Rhino has the great capability of making a 2-D drawing of a 3D object so I processed them so that all the lines are now on the same plane. Check the Make 2D layer and hopefully that will give you what you need.

Steve,

I had a customer do the same thing to me. He created lines that were not all on the same plane. In top view, using Turbocad, you can select each line segment individually and set the z position to zero. This should allow you to join the segments together and toolpath them properly.

I've emailed the corrected DXF files back to you. You still have to join them. Hopefully that should get you going.

For most versions of Autocad there is a command called "flatten" that takes all the linework to a zero z elevation.

Of course Autocad likes to change things all the time and the commman seems to come and go...

You can also select all the line work and change the z to zero in the properties box. The linework will say "varies" in the z box, highlight that and type 0
