I have a PRS Alpha with a 4hp spindle.
I cut 3/4 melamine at 7ips 12K rpm in 2 passes now.
I am wondering if it possible to get clean square corners on in one pass.

Currently I do one pass in climb mill to an onion skin and the final cut in conventional.

If you look after the deep Climb mill cut, you can see at the corners, the bit starts to pull to the outside.
The final pass in conventional cleans up the corners just fine.

I am using a 3/8 compression bit so I dont think the bit is flexing. I assume its Z flex.

Can this be compensated for by the use of ramps?

Thanks,
Bob

bob a good rule is to let depth not exceed the diameter of the bit, page 4 of this is posted at our cnc sattions for my employees to read!

It is a combination of Z flex and all the other tolerances of the machine adding up. That's an aggressive cut and I don't think you will ever entirely eliminate flex on that type of cut. Ramping may help smooth any bumps or chatter marks but there is no way to have the cutting forces be equal on straight-aways and corners on full depth cuts.
