I want to make a casing for a half circle window. I can make the casing with the two rail sweep with no problem. The problem is even if I cut out the casing first with a straight bit, and remove all of the cut off scrap, Aspire still wants to makes cut for the entire piece of wood stock even though it has been removed. Is there some way to work around this so all movement is cutting the casing instead of cutting air most of the time? Hope I made myself clear. Thanks

I'm not sure about that particular program but can't you use a vector outline of the parts to define your cutting limits?

If I were to use multi vectors on a pattern with a number of ups and downs and have them blend into each other, would take me all day to figure out how to do it. The moulding is not flat but has a lot of cuts to it. I will post this at the Vectric site since I may be in the wrong place as far as the program goes.

Daryl,

I recently made this 18" x 24" window frame in Aspire. Like you said, it was made using 2 rail sweeps with the components merged together.

If I was just machining the frame, I could position 4 rectangles where the panes are and by selecting these with the outer border they would be excluded from the toolpaths. The second picture shows the toolpath for a very simple example.

Darryl,

You need to create an offset vector that will surround your casing. But ask your question over at the Vectric forum.

Darryl,
Use vector shapes to define your cutting area.
In you case offset the outside and inside by 1/2 the cutter diameter. Select these shapes when you create your toolpath and aspire will only cut what is between them.
